The Ukrainian Intelligence Memorial embodies an eternal tribute to those who defended the light while remaining in the shadows. Two steles frame a peaceful space for reflection, where the names of fallen servicemen are engraved. Here, light and silence intertwine to honor the courage, dignity, and eternal gratitude of those who fought for Ukraine’s freedom.

The memorial sculpture is surrounded by a cozy square with meadow grasses, selected to reflect the rich diversity of Ukrainian landscapes. When viewed from above, the central sculpture resembles the eye of an owl – a key symbol of Ukrainian intelligence. Its pupil is formed by a central granite element with the word “Eternity” engraved in many languages of the world as a sign of respect for foreign fighters who served in Ukrainian intelligence. This element also serves as a place for laying flowers for fallen heroes.

On the inner sides of the steles, plaques in the shape of military chevrons are engraved with the names of all the intelligence officers who died in the war with Russia since 2022. Separate gold plaques honor the names of those who were awarded the title of “Hero of Ukraine” – the highest state award.

The intricate relief of the steles represents the spheres of activity of the Main Intelligence Directorate – “In the sky, at sea, on land” – symbolizing the multifaceted and dynamic nature of intelligence operations. The memorial combines this profound symbolism with a minimalist aesthetic, inviting visitors to pause and honor the memory of the heroes.

The subtle, subdued lighting throughout the space metaphorically refers to the official motto: “Sapiens Dominabitur Astris” (The Wise Will Rule the Stars). At night, the soft lighting becomes a metaphor for vigilance, symbolizing the constant presence of the heroes.

The project is a unique example of synergy between sculptor Nazar Bilyk and the architectural bureau Guess Line Architects, which designed the surrounding space. This collaboration gave impetus not only to the visual form, but also to the very concept of “memory practice”. The space and movement routes are carefully thought out to take visitors out of their daily routine and into another state – a state of reflection and contemplation.
